My duʿā have NOT been Answered

Many times, people say, “I’ve been making lots and lots of du’aa but my supplications have not been answered.” There is a beautiful hadith that gives me so much comfort.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a person makes a du’aa that is not asking for the facilitation of a sin, nor is it seeking the severing of family relations, then Allāh ﷻ gives them one of three things:

1. Allah will fulfill this du’aa in this life.

That whatever he/she is asking for, it will be granted to them.

2. Allah will store this du’aa for the Hereafter.

That if it wasn’t good for him/her in this world, Allah will store it for the akhirah. When a person will show up on the Day of Judgment and see what they will receive in exchange for their du’aa, they will wish that none of their du’aa were answered and that they were all reserved for the hereafter.

3. Allāh ﷻ will avert some harm from him/her in exchange for their du’aa.

When the sahabah heard this from the Prophet (ﷺ), they were amazed. They said, “O Messenger of Allah, we’re going to make lots of du’aa.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “No matter how much du’aa you make, Allah’s ability to answer your du’aa is that much greater.” Never give up on making du’aa as it will ALWAYS be answered in one way or another.
